The Farmers Market at Pepper Place
2829 2nd Avenue South, Birmingham, Alabama 35233, United States
Established in 1999, The Farmers Market at Pepper Place came into operation in 2000, embodying our commitment to connecting Alabama's finest producers with consumers in the Birmingham area. Our primary goal is to make fresh, healthy food easily accessible to all our neighbors while fostering a vibrant local economy and serving as a community gathering spot.
The inception of The Farmers Market at Pepper Place in 2000 aimed to support small family farms and establish a vital link between these farmers and the people of Birmingham, Alabama. Starting with a modest number of tents in the central parking lot of Pepper Place, our market has now expanded to include 100 tents dispersed across two parking lots and surrounding streets.
On Saturdays during the peak season, our market attracts an impressive attendance, with numbers exceeding 10,000 people. All of our vendors hail from Alabama, spanning a geographical range of up to 200 miles from The Market. It is not uncommon to witness three generations working side by side, a testament to the positive impact our farmers markets have on the sustainability of small family farms in Alabama.
The offerings at our market vary with the changing seasons. As we transition into summer, visitors can delight in an array of products such as bedding plants, herbs, lettuces, asparagus, strawberries in the spring, and a cornucopia of blackberries, blueberries, peaches, mushrooms, sweet corn, and tomatoes during the summer months, among many other seasonal delights.
